The chamber signs an agreement to activate and develop the arbitration and alternative dispute resolution unit (ADR)
Gaza – Public Relations: The Gaza Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture yesterday signed an agreement to implement the project "Activating and developing the arbitration and alternative dispute resolution unit (ADR)", supported by the Sawasya programme, as part of its continued work to widen access to justice and support economic recovery in the Gaza Strip. The project answers the exceptional challenges facing the private sector, above all the suspension of the court system since late 2023, the backlog of commercial disputes it produced and the breakdown of contract enforcement, all of which have weighed on the stability of the business environment. It aims to provide practical and effective alternatives for settling disputes by developing and activating a specialised arbitration and mediation unit within the chamber, offering professional and fast services that resolve commercial disputes with flexibility and efficiency. The project runs for six months and has several core components: developing the legal and procedural frameworks for arbitration and mediation in line with Palestinian legislation, building a digital system for managing and documenting cases, building the capacity of legal staff and practitioners in alternative dispute resolution, and running awareness campaigns and workshops for private-sector institutions to encourage the use of these mechanisms. It targets lawyers and dispute-resolution practitioners as well as private-sector companies, and is expected to handle a number of commercial cases as a first model while raising awareness among a wide range of business owners of the value and effectiveness of alternative dispute resolution. The project seeks to restore confidence in the commercial environment, reduce disputes and speed up economic recovery by providing flexible and effective justice mechanisms that answer the present reality of the Gaza Strip.
